Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science” (“Sakura Exchange Program in Scienceor “SSP”) in Fukuyama University, February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan

On February 14-20, 2023, our faculty members, 1 lecturer (Dr.Kittichon U-taynapun) and 2 master degree students from Master of Science Program in Aquaculture and Fishery Resources Management (Miss Agnesia Frisca Damayanti) and Master of Science Program in Sustainable Aquaculture (Miss Yananthon Saetang), participated in Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science or Sakura Exchange Program in Science (SSP). This program is a part of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) with the main purpose of promoting the interest of Asian youths toward the leading Japanese science and technology at Japanese universities.

Prof. Toshiaki Itami took good care and warm hospitality for all SSP members including 3 of us (RUTS) and 9 members from PSU. They got a warm welcome from the President of Fukuyama University and the Dean of Faculty of Life Science and Biotechnology. During the SSP program, they visited Fukuyama University and Research Institute of Marine Bioresource (Innoshima Campus) for taking university and laboratory tours and learning about breeding and farming systems and aquarium exhibition, respectively. A gathering between Japanese students and Thai students took place through the activities of poster presentation, lectures and sightseeing tour. Not only academic aspects but also cultural exchange, they introduced “Thai Tea” or “Cha Nom” and cutie souvenirs to Japanese. “Sugoi” and “Oishi” were the responses from everyone.

Moreover, Prof. Itami brought them to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Miyajima Shrine, which would be unforgettable places. Friendship, opportunity, partnership, well-organized and hospitality from Prof. Itami, Fukuyama University staff and students as well as SSP staff was truly appreciated. Moreover, we are very grateful for the support from JST throughout this program. We would like to sincerely “THANK YOU” from the bottom of our heart!
